These days, our options in just about everything range from easy to easiest. If we can’t do it in five minutes, then it’s not a priority. A webpage not loading in an instant? Close the tab. Lunch? Must arrive inside twenty minutes or that’s one-star on their online app. Health? As long as we can still walk upright, then everything is still okay.

With this mindset, maintaining our health has become something we only consider when we start to feel real pain or discomfort. In between finalising your next monthly report, getting the kids ready for school and catching the latest Netflix series, there are simply too many things on the list that are more important than our health. Wait a second, doesn’t that sound illogical?

Just because we don’t feel any pain right now doesn’t mean everything is in proper order. Investing in our health should be one of the priorities that we should always stay on top of. And when we say investing in health, we mean revitalising our health rather than investing in medicines.

What’s the difference between healthcare and sick care?

The philosophy of Holistic Healing prioritises keeping your mind, body and spirit in balance, to build a stronger immunity and have a lower risk of getting sick. Instead of paying a fortune on curing lifestyle diseases, you may want to reconsider your way of living. We understand that it’s difficult to make lifestyle changes, particularly because of all the temptations there are around us. This includes how convenient medical care has become thanks to medical insurance policies. Through medical insurance, consultations, laboratory tests and multiple screenings are now much more accessible for almost everyone.

And is Holistic medicine even one of the benefits of medical insurance? You’d be surprised.

MEDICAL INSURANCE IN THE UAE

There is a big misconception in the UAE that medical insurance does not cover alternative medicine. While this may be true for a few basic plans, many health insurance policies do cover alternative medicine.

Back in 2016, an article revealed that there was a huge demand for including alternative medicine in medical insurance policies. Most people argued that insurance companies actually save themselves money by preventing sickness and disease, rather than simply treating them.

Natural or Holistic medicine is getting very popular with working professionals as it is more effective and the benefits are longer lasting. Unlike modern medicine, where the focus is on treating what is broken, Holistic medicine finds the root causes of your problems and recommends solutions that are sustainable, effective and have no side effects. With these added benefits, the popularity of Holistic medicine and the calls to include it in medical insurance coverage are increasing.

Compared to medical treatment, most insurance providers find that preventive care and Holistic medicine are more cost-effective in the long run. This is the reason why more and more insurance companies have included alternative medicine, acupuncture and other treatments in the scope of their policies.

To make sure that alternative medicine is covered under your insurance benefits, get in touch with your insurance company. They will advise which treatments are available for you when you wish to seek an alternative option.

Back pains and stiff joints are just some of the most annoying signs of aging. With these pains ailing your body, concentrating on the more important things in life could be difficult.

Good thing Ayurveda has the perfect solution to your concerns.

Elakkizhi is a part of the panchakarma treatment in Ayurveda. It is a highly rejuvenating treatment that uses herbs and medicated oil to restore balance in your body. The treatment is highly effective for inflammatory conditions of bones and joints, chronic back pain, and sports injuries.

In the practice of Ayurveda, three doshas govern the body: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Whenever the doshas are not in balance, there are some herbs used to pacify the doshas and restore balance. In Elakkizhi, herbs are specifically used to pacify the Vata dosha.

Various kinds of leaves and herbs used in the treatment. Tamarind and coconut leaves are just some of the few leaves used in the practice. It is important though to always use fresh leaves and washed thoroughly. The leaves are chopped, mixed with other herbs and fried with medicated oils.

The poultice produced is then tied into boluses and dipped again into medicated oils. Meanwhile, the body is prepared for the treatment by massaging warmed oil onto it, raising the temperature slightly. When the ideal temperature is reached, the boluses are massaged over pressure points, providing relief and restoring balance.

The practice of Elakkizhi is best used to treat neurological disorders and post-traumatic dysfunctions. People experiencing anxiety and other mental health disorders can experience relief.

Elakkizhi is an amazing therapy that brings relief through detox. It is even better when one practices a holistic lifestyle along with the therapy.

Enjoy the benefits of Elakkizhi far more effectively and for longer when you subscribe to a more holistic lifestyle. Let’s start your journey to a happier and healthier life; schedule a consultation today.

Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed
more than 5,000 years ago in India and had been modernized globally since.

The concept of Ayurveda centres on the idea of balance between elements: space,
air, fire, water and earth. These elements combine to form the three doshas
everyone has: Vata dosha (space and air), Pitta dosha (fire and water), and Kapha
dosha (water and earth). The balance between these three doshas dictates our
overall wellness.

Everyone has a unique mix of the three doshas. Some people may have more Vata
dosha and are more likely to develop certain diseases because of it. When all the
doshas in the body are in balance, the body is able to perform better.

In cases of imbalance, Ayurvedic therapies can be used to restore your body to
rights. It begins with a traditional ancient Indian method of a comprehensive
consultation. Comprised of an eight-fold examination process, it establishes the
appropriate Ayurvedic treatments best for you.

The goal of Ayurveda is not to prevent diseases but rather to promote good health by
embodying a holistic lifestyle.

At Holistic Healing, we have various kinds of Ayurvedic treatments, that have many
benefits in restoring health. By working on your weak points from the cellular level to
the macro scale, our Holistic Ayurveda treatments are designed to restore balance
more effectively and have a longer lasting effect.

Some benefits of Ayurveda include:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Improving the immune system
  • Improving the quality of sleep
  • Improving skin conditions

Hajj is the most important spiritual journey you can make as a Muslim. Focus on the journey by following these simple tips.

Pre-Hajj

1. Optimise your digestion
Ease your digestion with home-cooked meals. Start the day with hearty soups before easing into healthier meals such as fish, eggs, grains, vegetables, beans and lentils.

Avoid taking late meals, fried food and foods with sugar. Opt for room temperature or warm drinks before food.

A glass of warm water with ginger and a slice of lemon before a meal also aids digestion.

2. Build endurance
Work on your stamina before your Hajj trip with the following exercise program:

3 weeks before Hajj
Engage in at least 30 minutes of outdoor walking during sunset or after dinner.

2 weeks before Hajj
Work your walks up to at least 1 hour.

1 week before Hajj
Walk at a brisk pace outdoors for at least 1.5 hours a day.

3. Detox lightly
Prepare your body by doing a light detox before Hajj.

We recommend 4 sessions of 3D treatment (visceral therapy, oil enema and foot reflexology) or 2 sessions of liver detox coupled with 5 sessions of vitamin infusions.

Have neem and turmeric balls, followed by warm water with lemon, ginger and honey every morning. Pair this up with a handful of gooseberries. This will help support your health, reduce inflammation and boost your immune system.

4. Prepare a Homeopathic Hajj Travel Kit
At Holistic Healing, we’ve specifically designed a homeopathic travel kit with the essential medication you can take with you for Hajj. Be prepared for headaches, fevers, infections and more with your own personal Hajj Holistic pharmacy.

During Hajj

1. Continue taking 1-2 neem and turmeric balls every morning. Wash it down with a glass of hot water, lemon and honey.

2. Enjoy a soothing and detoxifying Epsom salt footbath at night. This will help to reduce pain and inflammation, and prevent infections.

3. Avoid eating mass-prepared food while out. Instead, opt for fresh fruits like dates and bananas and pair them with fresh juices. Enjoy a warm cooked meal once you’re back at your accommodation.

4. Bring your water bottle. Ideally, a glass or a metal flask is better to avoid toxins, parasites and infections. Remember to keep yourself well hydrated!

Following Hajj

1. Rest
Once you’re back from Hajj, relax and rest at home for a least a full day. Avoid intense activities and trim down your busy schedule. Engage in relaxing activities and give your body time to recuperate.

2. Enjoy warm soups for meals
Warm broth soups, seasoned with light vegetables and light grains, are ideal for your adjusting body after Hajj. Try to keep to a soup diet for at least a day post-Hajj.

3. Detox
Restore balance and energy after your intense trip with a deep detox. Our specialists at Holistic Healing will be more than happy to assist you in scheduling a detox that is perfect for a post-Hajj trip.

Additional tip: In case you catch diarrhoea, take one teaspoon of pressed ginger juice with honey. If you are fasting, proper suhoor should be done.

Preventive care: If your immunity is generally low, wear a facemask throughout your trip. Bring your water bottles and mat.

Travel with your homeopathic Hajj travel kit and take medicine as soon as you feel sick. This will reduce the need for antibiotics or any intensive medication.

To get your own homeopathic Hajj travel kit, schedule a consultation with our specialist before your trip here.

Visceral Therapy is a treatment combining stomach massage with
acupressure, to restore the position of internal organs. This treatment can
correct the position of the colon, intestine, liver, gallbladder, pancreas,
duodenum and stomach after periods of compression and relocation caused
by gas, bloating and lack of movement.

The compression of reflexology points helps to stimulate the peristaltic flow
and activity of all the organs involved. This therapy can restore the function of
the digestive tract and regulates the flow of food and activity. It promotes the
release of congestion and compression by gas or by the waste of toxins,
which have stagnated for a long time due to improper function.

Prolonged dysfunction of the digestive system as constipation, bloating, gas,
acidity, stomach pain or indigestion, causes overstretch, dislocation and even
overlap of the stomach, intestine and colon. Long periods of laxative use can
also cause sluggishness and paralysis of intestinal muscles. In this case,
even when people start to eat healthier food, their digestion is still not
functioning properly. This results in malabsorption as well as a lack of energy
regeneration.

Slowly this creates stagnation of the blood flow, heaviness, water and toxin
retention in the lower part of the body. It may also cause lack of circulation,
clotting of the blood and varicose veins, dysfunction of the ovaries and the
prostate. This may lead to unhappiness and dissatisfaction at a functional
level because of all the unease inside the abdomen.

Colon hydrotherapy is the most effective way to release this stagnation,
restore function and eliminate toxins. Liver detox reinstates the flow of the
digestive system and eliminates the toxins in the liver, while visceral therapy
restores the flow and function of organ activities. Foot reflexology harmonises
and balances all corresponding reflexology points of the liver, stomach, colon
and nervous system. Oil enema helps to nourish and regenerate the lower
part of the colon and rectum, and to reduce stagnation in varicose veins.

Herbs in the medicated oil in oil enema support regeneration of the liver and
the body, as the rectum area has a high vascularization of arteries and veins.
This helps support faster absorption of medicines in the liver. This is why
when children have high fevers a suppository is used in the rectum. In
traditional medicine, suppositories are commonly used for pelvic diseases,
which include PCOS, lack of pregnancy, inflammation and other dysfunctions.

People report improved sleep and regeneration, in addition to improvements
in energy, vitality and happiness. Ninety per cent of our happiness hormone
Serotonin is developed in the colon and stomach. One hundred per cent of
the immune and lymphatic functions are regenerated in the colon intestine,
and one hundred per cent of absorption belongs to the correct function of
digestive system.

This means that the health and regeneration of all cells in the body depend on
a healthy digestive system. It doesn't matter whether the problem is in the
heart or the brain the cause lies in the dysfunction of the digestive system. In
traditional medicine, health and happiness stem from the abdomen and colon,
whereas death grows up from colon. Even modern science has now begun to
identify the gut as a second brain, and Holistic Medicine also calls the
digestive system and abdomen the source of life.

Health and happiness are restored by default when you start to care about the
correct elimination of toxins. When signals from your body are ignored, such
as discomfort, pain, acidity or bloating, this supports disease or even death.
The choice is yours, health and happiness or disease and death.

Holistic Tips for traveling
10 tips from our Holistic Diet & Lifestyle specialist on how to have a healthy & happy summer vacation
How prepared are you for your summer holidays? Many of us leave for several weeks during the summer time. Being away from home may push us away from our healthy diet and lifestyle routine. However, this doesn’t have to be the case! Our Holistic Diet and Lifestyle specialist has put together a detailed list of tips to help keep you on track! This is the perfect opportunity to nourish yourself and feel healthier and happier than ever!

1. Use the Homeopathic Holistic Travel kit as your on-the-go pharmacy
Be ready for nausea during the flight, over-eating or drinking, an ankle sprain or even just a headache. Whatever it is, your Holistic Travel Kit will have you prepared for all scenarios and keep you away from having to take over the counter medication or spend hours in a doctor’s waiting room. This is the perfect way to keep you and your family healthy and happy on the go!

2. Breathe in fresh air & spend time in nature
According to yogic tradition, life expectancy is linked to the frequency of breathing. The tortoise breathes very slowly and lives long, whereas the mouse breathes fast and has a very short life. By extending your breath and incorporating breathing exercises during your day, you will feel more energized and you will strengthen your immunity. Discharge stagnation by taking a walk barefoot on the beach or take a swim in the ocean. Enjoy the forest or the mountains. Wherever you are, spend time taking deep breaths outside and in nature.

3. Value your sleep
Try and maintain a regular sleep pattern. Being away from your daily routine may encourage late nights. If that is the case, enjoy a 20 minute nap in the afternoon so you can keep your energy levels up. Otherwise, try to go to bed before midnight and be up before 8am in order to maintain the body’s optimal function without disrupting its natural system. This will make it easier for you to adapt back into your routine once you are back.

4. Drink a glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning and before meals
Enjoy warm water with lemon anytime of the day. It is especially beneficial to have it first thing in the morning and before eating. This will help jump start your metabolism, keep healthy skin, detox the body naturally and ensure regular bowel movements.

5. Avoid dairy and swap for almond or coconut milk instead
Instead of depriving yourself of your favourite drinks, make little changes that support rather than restrict. By switching dairy for almond or coconut milk, you can still enjoy the flavour without the harsh affect dairy can cause on your sensitive system. You will be surprised to notice how much better your digestion and skin can get after just a few days!

6. Breakfast like a KING, Lunch like a PRINCE and Dinner like a PEASANT
Do you remember the saying our grandmothers used to tell us? Have breakfast like a KING, lunch like a PRINCE, dinner like a PEASANT. It’s true! We need more energy in the morning and less at night. By balancing your meals like this your food will leave you energised, rather than drained! “Food coma” will become a thing of the past!

7. Have fun, laugh and enjoy with your loved ones
Our emotions have a direct effect on the physical state of our body. Laughing, smiling and connecting with friends and family is the perfect way to promote health and vitality. Surround yourself by love and positivity.

8. Enjoy your favorite activity for 30 minutes every day
This can be going for a run, doing a yoga class or just taking a long walk. Whatever it is, move your body to allow for energy to flow freely. Physical activity and exercise is important for our body, mind and soul. It helps to maintain a good circulation, strengthen our muscles, balance our hormones and feel energized!

9. Desserts – Eat alone, or leave alone!
Natural fruits like baked apples and dates are the best resource to satisfy sweet cravings. Other desserts can still be enjoyed occasionally and in moderation. However, try to enjoy desserts on their own, rather than after meals. Mixing desserts with other foods can disrupt the digestive process, often leaving the body feeling very full and heavy.

10. Eat natural and local foods
Food should be your medicine and not medicine be your food. The choice is in your hands.
Choose the food that makes you feel light and fulfilled rather than lethargic, heavy and bloated.
Local foods will help you stay acclimatized to the environment you are in, keeping you in tune with nature.

Visit us for a short consultation to learn the basics to your own on-the-go pharmacy and other personalized tips for you and your family’s summer vacation! Be Healthy, Be Happy!

While the modern, high-tech section of the beauty world is experimenting with chemicals, micro-currents and creating complex new skin care mixtures, many are also returning to traditional beauty secrets. With origins in the ancient medical traditions of China and Southeast Asia, Gua Sha is a method of facial massage using crystal tools. You may have seen images or videos all over social media recently, but really this technique has been around for thousands of years.

Facial Gua Sha massage releases tension in the face muscles, increases blood circulation and encourages lymphatic drainage to get rid of puffiness. It helps break up fascia — the connective tissue around muscles and can even be considered as a Botox alternative.

Holistic Aesthetic specialists explain: ”Imagine you have a leg injury: The muscles are all knotted up from the trauma and there is scar tissue restricting circulation. You’d be sent for physical therapy to help release the muscles and break down the scar tissue, so that your leg could heal. The chronic stress of our day-to-day lives plays out on our faces as a furrowed brow or a clenched jaw. Facial Gua Sha is a therapy we can apply to uncoil the daily buildup of stress we experience in the face, and restore health, vitality and glow.”

This may sound very similar to jade rollers which some of you might already have at home. While the jade rollers are great to simulate and release superficial puffiness, the facial Gua Sha is much more powerful. It gets a lot deeper into the skin tissue and really works on lifting the face, de-bloating and even removing wrinkles.

One thing to keep in mind is that using this technique aggressively or without proper understanding of our lymph nodes and facial anatomy can cause some unnecessary bruising. There is a specific technique in order to experience all the wonderful benefits and so we recommend Gua Sha facials and lymphatic drainage massages by a professional.

Our Holistic Aesthetics specialist is trained in this technique by Traditional Chinese masters that have brought this incredible beauty secret to the West. If you are looking for a natural approach to your facials and skin care, seeking out a Holistic expert will take your beauty to the next level.

HOW-EMOTIONS-EFFECT-OUR-BODY.png
19/May/2024

The mind and the body are more connected than you think!
Ancient Eastern civilizations have long understood the way our mind connects to our body. Recently, with studies proving how the ‘gut’ acts as our second brain and how stress is toxins, western science is only just starting to catch up!

STAGES OF ILLNESS:

1. Wrong Mindset
2. Incorrect interaction with the World
3. Homeostasis disbalance
4. Metabolic disbalance
5. Symptoms & disease
6. Terminal stage

Consider this:
Every organ corresponds to a certain emotion. Every disease stems from disbalance in an organic or its meridians (energy channels). That is why a physical disorder in a certain organ often actually arises from an emotional imbalance in that organ.
The reverse could also be true: an imbalanced organ can heighten a specific emotion. This can then become a vicious cycle.
As humans, emotions are a normal element in life. They do not necessarily cause disease when they arise, but when they are repressed or unconsciously expressed they may become pathological.

Specific herbs and foods can be used to strengthen tone and detoxify the organ to help emotions to pass through easily! Also, the more we become aware of our emotions through activities like meditation can help bring awareness to our emotions. This helps us prevent diseases through maintaining balance in our body and mind.

This is how different organs and emotions are connected and ways to re-balance your system:

GRIEF + DEPRESSION: emotion of the lungs & large intestine

Loss of any kind can trigger a cold, a feeling of being energetically drained, and difficult bowel function. When grief is unresolved, depression and an inability to ‘let go’ of things can arise. This could eventually interfere with lung function and oxygen circulation.

To Balance: pungent flavored and/or white colored foods and herbs. Onion, radish, mustard greens, daikon radish, scallions (white part), almonds, white meat, white rice, white beans, white mushrooms, gingko nut, white mustard seed, angelica root tangerine peel

Reduce: eggs, dairy, rich, processed or fatty foods that cause congestion

FEAR: Emotion of the kidneys & bladder

It is a normal adaptive emotion, but can become chronic when we ignore it. Kidney issues often arise when we are dealing with fear, such as a change in life direction or unstable living conditions.

To Balance: salty flavored and/or black colored foods and herbs. Black beans, walnuts, black sesame, mushrooms, water chestnuts, seaweed, blackberries, black tea, psoralia root, lotus seed, stephania root

Reduce: cheese, salt, heavy meat, sugars, excessively cooling foods

WORRY + NERVOUSNESS: Emotion of the spleen & stomach

Too much pensiveness, worrying and insecurity can weaken our ability to digest. When we are anxious, we find it hard to digest and accept a situation or life event. A weak spleen can also be the cause of stubborn weight problems!

To Balance: sweet flavored and/or yellow, orange, brown colored foods and herbs. Root veggies! Carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin, parsnip, squash, chestnuts, fig, taro, liquorice root, ginger root, jujube date, astragalus root

Reduce: meats, cold, raw, and all frozen foods, iced drinks, excess refined sugars

ANGER + FRUSTRATION: Emotion of the liver & gallbladder

Emotions like rage, fury or aggravation can indicate that this energy is in excess, and when we experience these emotions consistently, our liver can get further damaged.

To Balance: sour flavored and/or green colored foods and herbs. Dandelion greens, beetroot, green bell pepper, peas, sprouts, bok choy, string beans, cabbage, zucchini, mung beans, avocado, citrus, barbat skullcap, fo shou, milk thistle, Chinese wolfberry fruit

Reduce: soft dairy, crabmeat, buckwheat, alcohol, fried foods, peanuts, and excess citrus

HAPPINESS + JOY: Emotion of the heart & small intestine

When we experience true joy and happiness, we are nourishing our heart and small intestine energy: we feel mentally clear and able to process experiences. When we are lacking joy in our lives, the heart suffers and we can feel stuck, mentally chaotic, and have difficulty sleeping.

To Balance: bitter flavored and/or red colored foods and herbs. beet, tomato, okra, cherry, watermelon, broccoli rabe, bitter melon, lettuce, arugula, dandelion, berries, chillies (in moderation), green tea, lotus root, sour jujube seed, arbor-vitae seed, mimosa tree bark, ginseng, hawthorn berries

Reduce: excess spicy foods, chocolate, sugar, salt, vinegar, garlic
