Kati Basti is one of the treatments from a group called external oleation therapies (Snehana). Pizhychil means “squeezing” or “pouring”. In this type of treatment, warm and medicated oil is poured continuously onto the patient’s body or specific areas (but not the head) from pitchers. In olden times, people used cotton cloths to do this – thus the word “squeezing”. Pizhichil is used in rheumatic diseases, arthritis and all nervous disorders like paralysis, hemiplegia, Parkinson’s disease. It relieves body pain and muscle spasms, speeds up the healing of fractured bones, increases immunity, improves skin complexion, has anti-aging properties, is soothing, relaxing and rejuvenating.
The Chakra Basti is performed by filling the hot medicated oil or ghee in this dam either by gently pouring or squeezed in with cotton gauze. When the oil or ghee cools down it is squeezed out and replaced with more warm ones. The procedure does local oleation and local sudation simultaneously.
